NHS Grampian is proud to be an equal opportunities organisation, and recognises the amazing contribution a diverse workforce brings.  NHS Grampian is a regular and proud attendee and supporter of Grampian Pride which is a celebration of our LGBTQ+ communities.  We invite all our colleagues and their families to join us in supporting our LGBTQ+ colleagues in this annual event.

As part of the NHS Grampian Rainbow Campaign, the NHS Grampian Equality and Diversity Team are delighted to invite colleagues to wear an NHS Grampian rainbow ribbon lanyard, or pulley type lanyard along with the NHS Scotland pride badge.

You can find out more about the NHS Scotland Pride Badge by watching this short video NHS Scotland Pride Badge - video

The NHS Scotland Pride Badge promotes inclusion for LGBTQ+ people and makes the statement that there’s no place for discrimination or harassment of any kind in NHS Scotland.

As an NHS staff member who wears the badge, you are pledging to:

  • Be aware of and responsive to issues faced by LGBTQ+ people accessing care
  • Be a friendly, listening ally who colleagues and service users can safely approach
  • Use inclusive language and respect identity

Three quick steps to make the pledge and receive your badge

1) Pride Badge Toolkit

Download and read the NHS Scotland Pride Badge Tool Kit which has been developed to provide you with all you need to know about wearing the NHS Scotland Pride Badge. It also gives you some useful tips about managing things like social media responses and signposting people to national organisations.

2) Pride Badge Pledge form

The Staff Equalities Network would love to work with people that are proud to wear the badge, and would like to know what people’s motivations are.  You can let us know why the badge is important to you by completing the Pride Pledge form here NHS Grampian Pride Pledge Form and e-mail to gram.equalitydiversity@nhs.scot

Further Information

Some people may be having a particularly tough time and may disclose to you that they have experienced or witnessed harassment or hate crime on the grounds of their sexual preference, gender identity or other characteristic such as their ethnicity, faith or disability. It’s important that you signpost to the support in place for people to report this type of crime and that it can be reported easily. More information is available from the Police Scotland website: Report Hate Crime to Police Scotland

You may be approached by colleagues who disclose they are experiencing discrimination and would like support to deal with it. Let them know they should raise their concerns with their manager in the first instance. If the manager is the potential issue, then they should raise their concerns with their manager's manager. The NHS Grampian HR Team assist with guidance and support in these matters. More information is available on the NHS Scotland Workforce Policies website.

Bullying and Harassment Confidential Contacts are trained NHS Grampian staff who volunteer for the role, they provide informal signposting and support to employees, workers and volunteers. They are independent of the formal structures within NHS Grampian. Staff can contact them directly and confidentially to discuss their current situation at work and seek information on the options open to them to handle an incident or resolve a situation where they feel bullied or harassed, or if they have been accused of demonstrating bully and harassing behaviours. Bullying and Harassment Confidential Contacts provide listening ear, they will not make any judgement or represent staff in any processes.

Visit the Bullying and Harassment content on the NHS Grampian Intranet (this can only be accessed by devices connected to the NHSG IT Network)
