Plan For The Future - Dr Gray’s Hospital 2023-2033

The NHS Grampian Board adopted its Plan for the Future in June 2022.  A key commitment within it was to develop a long term plan for Dr Gray’s Hospital with the aim of improving recruitment and retention of staff and to ensure confidence in the local delivery of specialist care.

Engagement with staff, the public and partners has been at the heart of the approach to developing Dr Gray’s strategic plan.  The Scottish Approach to Service Design framework, which has a vision that the people of Scotland actively participate in the definition, design and delivery of their public services, has been followed throughout the process.

Between June and December 2022, engagement with staff, services users, the public, and partner organisations took place to help identify the main themes for Dr Gray’s ten year plan.

Analysis of the responses from stakeholder groups has been summarised into 13 draft high level priority areas sitting under the headings of People, Places and Pathways.  These themes were identified by collating the highest number of references in the survey responses as well as analysing detailed comments and opinions.

The emerging draft strategic themes are set out in the diagram below.

Over coming months, these themes will be developed further into a delivery plan for the next ten years.  NHS Grampian will continue to engage with staff, the public and other partner organisations to make sure feedback has been understood and to create an effective implementation plan.

While it is important to develop a long-term plan for Dr Gray’s, we are also acting on feedback we have received from colleagues and the wider community as part of short-term planning.

NHS Grampian’s Property and Asset Development team has begun a full assessment of the space, quality and function of Dr Gray’s Hospital as it is today.  This work will advise what improvements and changes are needed to the existing Dr Gray’s Hospital site to make sure it is fit for purpose now and even better in the future.

Shaping The Future for Dr Gray’s Hospital - UPDATE

At Dr Gray's Hospital, the future is being shaped by a passionate and dedicated team who have been hard at work gathering and analysing insights, to inform the strategic direction for the next ten years.

These insights were gathered from Dr Gray’s staff, partners and the public between June 2022 and January 2023. These were gathered through 788 survey responses (hard copy and online) and 20 x 3hour long workshops, which were well attended by 153 members of Dr Gray’s staff and partners. This input was made possible by the commitment and enthusiasm of local staff and people.

All engagement feedback gathered was analysed and the main themes identified. The feedback and themes were discussed at a workshop attended by local Dr Gray’s and NHS Grampian-wide clinical and non-clinical managers in January 2023. From this workshop a high level vision was agreed for the future of Dr Gray’s.

This vision was shared with (and approved) by the NHS Grampian Board in February 2023. Since then, collaboration has continued to pull together a high level implementation plan. This plan will go the NHS Grampian Board for discussion in April 2023.

During this time, we have also been working to pull together engagement feedback reports to share the feedback themes with staff, public and partners. These reports are now ready to share and we hope that they will be helpful in understanding what staff, partners and the public would like from Dr Gray’s in the future.

We will be sharing the strategic vision, along with the implementation plan as that is developed and there is more detail to include. At this time our hope is everyone will get involved to help ensure the details of the implementation plan are coherent and ask that everyone works together to get behind and support the implementation of the plan.

The team are excited to move forward with the strategic planning and are enthusiastic about the positive impact it will have on the hospital, staff, partners and the community.

Moray Health Social Care Partnership Chief officer, Simon Bokor-Ingram said: “We are humbled by the enthusiasm of all those who took part in the engagement process and we look forward to working together to agree the details and put plans into action.”

We're excited to hear your feedback on our recently published engagement reports. Your input is incredibly valuable to us as we strive to improve our services and better serve our community.

Whether you're a dedicated member of our staff, a valued stakeholder, or a member of the public, we want to hear from you.
