Using RefWorks

Aim

This session will introduce you the RefWorks software used to manage references to journal articles, books, web-sites, etc, you may have found through study, research or practice.  You will also learn how to produce a bibliography for a paper, formatted in the appropriate style.

Audience

This session is open to all staff, particularly if you will be collecting a large (or even a small) number of references through work, study, or research.

Prerequisites

Participants should be familiar with basic computer & Internet operations, and have basic knowledge of searching medical databases.

2.5 hours

Objectives

After completing this session you will be able to:

  • Create a RefWorks account & log-in via the NHS e-library
  • Use the three methods of adding references to RefWorks :
                - manual
                - direct export from database results
                - importing a text file from database results
  • Organise references in folders
  • Search RefWorks for records
  • Create a bibliography using RefWorks tools (Quick Bibliography, Write'n'Cite)
